Introduction
CTERA's Cloud Attached Storage® combines on-premises Network Attached Storage devices (CTERA Cloud Storage Gateways) and/or CTERA Agent software with cloud services in a single, integrated solution.
Cloud storage services offer file sync and share (FSS), off-site backup and disaster recovery, while CTERA Cloud Storage Gateways provide backup and FSS over the local network.
Automated differential backup and restore functions include block-level deduplication, compression, and encryption technologies, ensuring secure and efficient synchronization between the cloud storage service and the CTERA Cloud Storage Gateway or CTERA Agent-installed computer.
About Your CTERA Cloud Storage Gateway
CTERA Cloud Storage Gateways seamlessly combine local storage, cloud storage, data protection functionality and collaboration capabilities in a single, cost-effective package. Ideal for enterprise branches and remote offices, Cloud Storage Gateways replace legacy file servers and tape backup in a single solution with significant cost savings.
Cloud storage gateways are available both as C-Series gateways, which are hybrid, physical appliances, and as software-based virtual gateways that offer the same capabilities as the physical gateways in a virtual environment. Each gateway combines the functionalities of a standalone Network Attached Storage (NAS) device with full capabilities and comprehensive backup functionality in a single appliance. The gateways utilize on-premises storage capabilities for speed and local sharing, while taking advantage of cloud storage for off-site backup, universal access, file sharing, and folder synchronization.
Both C-Series and virtual gateways allow you to do all of the following:
Share files across your network
Synchronize folders across your network and the cloud
Back up files on line, securely and automatically
Restore multiple file versions
Access backed-up files from anywhere, using a web browser
Using the cloud storage gateway, data is synchronized between your computer and the cloud storage gateway drives, then transparently backed up to an offsite storage facility in the cloud. Backups are encrypted using high-grade AES encryption and encoded to maximize bandwidth utilization. Users can recover files stored locally on the cloud storage gateway, or from cloud backup using a web browser.
Once installed, the cloud storage gateway is controlled using an intuitive web-based interface or managed centrally through the CTERA Portal. The portal also allows users to sync content between the portal and the gateway, as well as between gateways located in different branch offices.
This guide covers the CTERA C200, C400, C800, C800+ and Virtual Cloud Storage Gateways.
