Solution Sheets: CTERA Caching Technology Solution Brief
Distributed caching and global namespace technologies enable infinite, high speed, secure file services from any endpoint device or branch storage gateway.
Secure, unlimited file access from Edge Filers, seamlessly integrating with SMB and NFS shares while replacing legacy NAS or file servers.
CTERA Edge Filers provide a local presentation of cloud-based file ‘stubs’ on edge devices, offering complete access to the global file system from any edge location.
Easily migrate existing network file shares, access permissions, and ACLs/security policies from legacy file systems to CTERA’s modern infrastructure.
Distributed caching and global namespace technologies enable infinite, high speed, secure file services from any endpoint device or branch storage gateway.
CTERA allows organizations to launch and manage a modern global file system that delivers a wide variety of edge-to-cloud file services.
Very scalable! Our Edge Filers range from 1TB to 256TB of local cache, supporting up to 10,000 connected users per Edge Filer, an unlimited number of Edge Filers in a single Global File System, linear performance scaling and support for multi-petabyte global namespaces.
We employ several advanced caching algorithms such as Least Recently Used (LRU) for general cache management, predictive prefetching based on access patterns, differential sync for efficient updates of modified files and intelligent data pinning for critical files.
We recommend a minimum 10 Mbps connection between edge and core, latency under 250ms for real-time sync operations, support for QoS to prioritize CTERA traffic and IPv4 and IPv6 compatibility.
Here’s a breakdown of our process:
– Intelligent pre-fetching based on historical access patterns
– Priority-based caching for critical datasets
– Background warm-up to minimize impact on user operations
– Configurable warm-up policies to match specific use cases
