CTERA Direct

Streamline Your Cloud Access with CTERA Direct

CTERA Direct’s ultra-fast, edge-to-cloud patented file transfer protocol is designed to power distributed data-rich environments, such as creative media and healthcare offices, and to accelerate responsiveness for work-from-home users using CTERA desktop and VDI agents.

CTERA Direct boosts file transfer speeds by an order of magnitude, making it ideal for hybrid cloud data rich workloads such as media companies that routinely need to ingest and distribute massive video files and creative assets. Paired with CTERA’s proprietary source-based data deduplication and compression, CTERA Direct enables unparalleled file ingestion speeds.

Data Ingestion
Achieve high file transfer throughput regardless of network latency or the distance between your edge device and the cloud storage site. CTERA Direct transfers data chunks in parallel via up to 100 concurrent connections per client to overcome the effects of network latency. Users can quickly send and access large files over long distances (e.g., New York to Tokyo) for a seamless global collaboration.
CTERA Direct lets you create a geographically distributed global file system in which data originating in a specific region is stored in that same region. Data is accessible from anywhere, and the entire system is managed through a single, centralized pane of glass.

CTERA Direct offers unparalleled security, combining AES-256 encryption with CTERA’s zero-trust architecture. Rather than granting privileged object storage credentials to edge devices – considered to be inherently untrusted – each direct request is approved and digitally signed by a centralized security authority. Edge devices never possess credentials for the object storage, and they cannot corrupt your critical data even if they are compromised.

Zero-Trust Architecture

Storage Routing

Ensure your data takes the most efficient path in a multi-cloud environment, balancing performance, redundancy, and cost. Perfect for disaster recovery and real-time data management.
Routing provides policy controls to designate dedicated storage buckets to folders in the global file system. Provides flexibility to protect sensitive data on-premises.

Delivers unified, high-performance, CIFS/NFS presentation across any number of storage buckets and tiers. Prioritize datasets based on tier for optimal cost savings.

Global Presentation of Storage Tiers

CTERA Edge Filer ensures consistent data across multiple locations by allowing selective data synchronization between sites, ensuring that the right data is available where needed.

Multi-Cloud File Access

CTERA Zones

Segment your cloud environment into distinct zones for optimal data management and security. Control where and how data is stored based on regional, compliance, or organizational needs, ensuring that your most critical data is always in the right place. Perfect for meeting industry-specific regulatory requirements while enhancing overall cloud security and efficiency.

IT administrators can define Zones by relevant geographic or department criteria and tag folders and users to assign dynamic access in each Zone. Users are prevented from accessing any folder in the global namespace that does not belong to their defined Zone. Folders can be shared between multiple zones.

Flexible Zones Definition
Accounting department users do not need access to product design specs. Marketing teams do not need access to HR reports. By defining zones based on the content required by each department and associating a department edge filer to each zone, you can ensure that users only have access to relevant data while restricting access to sensitive data across the organization.
Internal Access Control

Creating separate zones for each country enables global enterprises to comply with GDPR and other data residency requirements. For example, personal data related to customers that resides on an Edge Filer in Germany can be “hidden” from users working in offices outside the country.

Each edge filer syncs only files in the global namespace that belong to its defined Zone, resulting in a performance boost for large, multi-site enterprises managing millions of files. By exposing the filer to a subset of the global namespace, traffic loads related to file activities (modifications, deletions, etc.) are reduced dramatically.
By creating multiple zones for an edge filer, IT admins can separate its content into business-driven units for more efficient data management. Users have fast access to relevant data without having to sift through unwanted content, while admins gain better visibility into the folders and files belonging to each department.
Efficient IT Management

Multi-tenant

Share infrastructure across multiple clients or departments while maintaining strict data isolation and security. Scale effortlessly as your organization grows, keeping costs in check.

Uncategorized: The Complete Guide for Businesses: Multi-Cloud Data Management

Introduction Businesses across the spectrum have embraced the mainstream trend of cloud computing, lured by its myriad advantages. Cloud computing promises a dynamic, scalable environment that enhances operational efficiency and is friendly to the bottom line. Yet, it’s not without its fair share of complexities. Companies grapple with issues such as data integration, security, and…

FAQ

Multi-cloud refers to the strategic deployment of multiple cloud services from different providers—such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud—within a single architecture. This approach, one we undertake for our customers, enables CTERA to distribute workloads and data across various cloud platforms, optimizing performance, increasing resilience, and avoiding vendor lock-in. Multi-cloud strategies often involve a combination of public, private, and hybrid clouds, allowing organizations to tailor infrastructure and services based on security, latency, and compliance requirements.

Yes, our platform enhances performance by optimizing data placement and geo-replication. We give you the power to store data closer to your users via our Edge Filers, reducing latency and improving data access times. By leveraging intelligent caching at the edge, frequently accessed data can be served locally, significantly boosting performance while minimizing cloud access costs. This architecture also provides automatic load balancing, distributing data across multiple cloud platforms for redundancy and performance optimization.

Getting started begins with deploying CTERA’s Edge Filers and our global file system. Our hybrid cloud architecture enables seamless integration with AWS, Azure, and private clouds to name a few, so that businesses like yours can distribute workloads intelligently. Our centralized management console simplifies workload distribution, security management, and compliance monitoring, making it easier for IT teams to manage multi-cloud environments effectively.

We embed end-to-end encryption, audit logging, and granular access controls into its multi-cloud file system. Our hybrid cloud data platform supports industry-specific regulations such as HIPAA, GDPR, and PCI-DSS by securing data both in transit and at rest with AES-256 encryption. It also allows administrators to enforce role-based access control (RBAC), multi-factor authentication (MFA), and maintain a detailed audit trail of all file access and data movements. With CTERA, you can enforce compliance distributed edge locations and multiple cloud environments, ensuring data integrity and security no matter where your workforce is.
