Local File Sharing
Files on the cloud storage gateway can be shared over the network by defining shares on folders. Files can shared in all of the following ways:
• Using
Windows File sharing. Every share is exposed through Windows File Sharing, so that Windows clients on the network can access the shares through Windows. For more details, see
Windows File Sharing.
• Using Apple File Sharing. Shares can be exposed through Apple File Sharing. Users with Mac OS X and Mac OS-based clients can access network shares on the cloud storage gateway, using the Apple Filing Protocol (AFP). Furthermore, enabling Apple File Sharing allows the cloud storage gateway to act as a repository for Apple Time Machine backup files.
• Using FTP. You can use the gateway as an FTP server to transfer files or folders over the local network.
• Using RSync. You can use the cloud storage gateway as an RSync Server, allowing users to efficiently synchronize files and folders on their RSync clients or CTERA cloud storage gateways with the cloud storage gateway.
• Using NFS. You can use the cloud storage gateway as an NFS server, enabling clients with specified IP addresses to access network shares on the cloud storage gateway, as if the shares were located on the client's hard drive.
• Using Home directories. Each user can be assigned a home directory for their own use on the gateway. You can set all home directories to be accessible to all users or private.
Note: The
Shares > Collaboration option available in C200, C400, C800 and C800+ devices has been replaced by the Sync Gateway, described in
Sync Gateway Mode. This option is no longer supported by CTERA and is only included in the cloud storage gateway user interface for backwards compatibility.
