Monitoring Your Cloud Storage Gateway : Testing Hard Drives

Testing Hard Drives
CTERA physical appliances display the results of S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) scans, both visually and via the Last Events list in the appliance dashboard and in the portal and appliance logs. In the appliance dashboard, the hard disk icon changes color when a S.M.A.R.T. alert occurs and the Last Events entry in the dashboard displays the results of a S.M.A.R.T. scan.
Run a S.M.A.R.T. test to determine the health of a C-Series (C200, C400, C800/C800+) cloud storage gateway hard drive. When a drive fails a S.M.A.R.T. test, the dashboard displays that the S.M.A.R.T. test failed, in red, for the drive.
To run a S.M.A.R.T. scan:
1 In the Configuration tab, select Main > Dashboard.
2 In the Hard Disk Drives area, click the drive you want to test.
The Hard Drive Status window is displayed for the selected drive.
3 Select the Self Test tab.
4 Click the type of test you want to run on the drive:
Start Long Test to run a long S.M.A.R.T. scan.
Start Short Test to run a short S.M.A.R.T. scan.
Results are displayed in the Self Test tab.
