Edge Filer Administration > Sharing Local Files
Sharing Local Files
Folders and files that are required locally, but not required to be part of the global namespace can be stored on the gateway and not synced with the portal. This content can be shared locally over the network and backed up to the cloud. Files can shared in any of the following ways:
*Using Windows File sharing. Every share is exposed through Windows File Sharing, so that Windows clients on the network can access the shares through Windows. For more details, see Windows File Sharing.
*Using FTP and TFTP. You can use the gateway as an FTP or TFTP server to transfer files or folders over the local network.
*Using RSync. You can use the gateway as an RSync Server, allowing users to efficiently synchronize files and folders on their RSync clients or gateways.
*Using NFS. You can use the gateway as an NFS server, enabling clients with specified IP addresses to access network shares on the gateway, as if the shares were located on the client's hard drive.
*Using Home directories. Each user can be assigned a home directory for their own use on the gateway. You can set all home directories to be accessible to all users or private.
Note: The Share > Collaboration option available in C200 and C400 Edge Filers has been replaced by the CACHING or SYNC gateway modes, described in Syncing the Gateway and the CTERA Portal. This option is no longer supported by CTERA and is only included in the C200 and C400 user interface for backwards compatibility.
